I had the great joy to teach at Udo Reinemann International Masterclass in Brussels, replacing Hartmut Höll at short notice. These classes are dear to my heart, after many years partnering Udo, and his passion for all things ‘song’ on stage and in many masterclasses. To work in the beautiful Grand Foyer of la Monnaie was inspiring and gives the excellent students the chance to present the repertoire in a fine space. They are gifted and especially open and receptive. We were able to open some doors on this rare repertoire of Ullmann, Eisler and Hindemith, and I spent rich days, full of wonder at these young peoples’ enduring aspirations.
