“Perfect Purcell on a superlative release chock-full of treasures Koningsberger sings with perception and gorgeous tone (…) From the lightness and simplicity of the earliest song, to the declamatory, richly ornamented later songs, Koningsberger’s innate musicality and subtle intelligence are evident in every phrase (…) One of the best Purcell recitals to have hit the shelves in years.” – Gramophone – Editor’s Choice
“I must now draw your attention the wonderful singing of the baritone Maarten Koningsberger. His voice is ideally suited to this repertoire and he clearly is both creative and, in particular, sensitive to the sentiments contained within the music of the 16 th and 17th century. I shall certainly be on the lookout for other discs upon which he features”. – The Recorder Magazine
“Highly satisfying recital of Purcell songs. Koningsberger’s English is excellent and he dramatises the music very well, adding plenty of variety to the strophic songs and acting out the rhetorically emphasized final lines with great charm of his own. Koningsberger leaves us well able to imagine we are eavesdropping on an evening of spontaneous music-making from two wondefully engaged musicians.” – Internationaal Record Review
